“From the Classroom to the Cow Pasture: Why I’m Running”

If you had told me years ago that I’d be trading lesson plans for livestock and board meetings for barn chores, I probably would’ve laughed—and then asked what kind of boots I’d need.

But here I am. A mother. A GlamMa. A retired educator. A businesswoman. A believer. A farmer. And now, a candidate for Alabama Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries.

For over 20 years, I worked in classrooms and community programs, helping students discover who they were and what they could grow into. I believed then, and I believe now, that education is the seed of every harvest. But something shifted in me when I started farming. I began to see how disconnected we’ve become from the land—and how much untapped power our agricultural communities hold.

I saw small farmers struggling without support. Young people without access to ag careers. Food deserts in rural and urban communities. And I knew God had more for me to do.

That’s why I’m running—not just to hold a title, but to till the ground for equity, opportunity, and innovation. Alabama’s farms are more than crops and cows—they’re our legacy and our future.

This blog will be where I share the journey—through all the mud, miracles, and momentum.

So come walk with me. Through harvests and heartaches. Through faith and farming. Through every county in Alabama. Let’s grow something great—together.
